Welcome to the Haviland Street Project

Haviland Street October 2013
The project is taking a small urban street and documenting it over the course of a year. Why? Well, two reasons really. I thought it would be interesting to take a small street and see how it changes over the seasons and different times of days. The different people, the different light and of course the seasons. The second reason is I thought it would be a good photography exercise. By chronicling a relatively small street I will need to be constantly looking for new and interesting shots.

Why Haviland St? I live right off Haviland Street, so I thought it would be easy and convenient to pick a street nearby. I like that it's small- it only runs about a block and a half. It's a small but busy street- in the heart of East Fenway, it's surrounded by music schools (Berklee, New England Conservatory, Boston Conservatory) and right off busy Mass Ave It has the right mix of interesting, but not too interesting, so I'll have to work to find worthy images.

I'm setting a few simple rules for myself-  All shots must be taken either standing on Haviland St or have some piece of Haviland Street in it. I want to get at least 3-4 photos up a week. The photo must be taken the week it is posted.

I will try and comment on some photos, but probably not all. I have some photos already of Haviland St and may post a few old photos in a separate section. The above photo is from last October.

I will sort the images by week , but also tag images with helpful things like night shots, seasons, etc.

If you live in the neighborhood, I hope you enjoy seeing the street in a, hopefully,  interesting perspective.  If you don't live nearby or have never been here ( or even in Boston ) before I hope you can still find it interesting.

Look for the Archives to the right to see each week. Thanks for stopping by.

Please feel free to leave comments-- they mean a lot and will get me out shooting each week even when it's 20 degrees out.
