WEEK 32

MAY 25TH- MAY 31ST

I was thinking about how I had very few photos of the rain and it occurred to me that it really hasn't rained that much since October-- we had a 100+ inches of snow, of course, but very little actual rain. But that was rectified this week with a couple of solid days of rain. So this week it's mostly about the rainy day (and night) shots.

I really like the light right after the storm too.  Of course it's easier to shoot post storm than in the middle of the storm.

Just in Case

Sometimes I focus too much on a "dramatic" sky, with crazy clouds or an intense blue- but sometimes a solid gray sky sky can be quite impressive on it's own.

Grey Sky

I'm a sucker for the effect of isolating one bit of color in a black and white shot-- I think it mostly works, though when the color really stands out in real life too. That was the case here - I didn't have to remove very much color--the day and the street was very monochrome and the purple truly did stand out.

The reflection of the wet streets at night are another nice rain side effect

WEEK 31

MAY 18TH - MAY 24TH

This week is all about the rooftops--  all photos are taken of and from the rooftops of Haviland St. I'm not big on heights, so no getting too close to the edge.

I didn't think I was going to have very many usable photos this week, but they came out better than I thought and  I ended up with quite a few.  I tried to go for an old timey postcard look on this one.

WEEK 30

MAY 11TH- MAY 16TH

Here we are  -30 weeks in. I still am enjoying it, but it is getting harder and harder to find things to shoot.  It has also quieted down considerably with Berklee being done for the year and the Red Sox out of town. It seemed to be mostly cloudy when I wanted to shoot also. So a challenging week overall.

Ivy

We did get a new playground sign. I'm probably the only one who notices these things. There is no see-saw in the playground, by the way.

See-Saw Sign

This guy set up a tiny little sidewalk sale on the corner. A sadder little group of items would be hard to find.

Sidewalk Sale

I could do a whole series on people carrying instruments up and down the street. Waiting for a piano to roll down the street-- but for now this will have to do.

Casio Ride

The rest of the week was just trying to find some unique shots

And a little fun with cross processing to end the week.

WEEK 29

MAY 4TH- MAY 10TH

So, of course, we jump from Spring right into Summer.  The trees aren't only blooming but some of them are in full summer mode. The students are starting to finish up and the street will take on a more local residential character

Green Leaves

So the Mayor visited Haviland Street this week-- the official ribbon cutting for the Edgerely Rd Playground was on Wednesday. I worked very late the night before and could get myself up for the early morning ceremony, but I did mention to sneak some photos out the window.

I was captivated by this girl practicing conducting. She had a baton and sometimes had on headphones-- but I found it most interesting when she was conducting with no headphones- like she was conducting the street scene.

A Quiet Moment

Moving out doesn't seem to be as crazy as moving in day- I think it is spread out a little more and doesn't happen all on one day.

WEEK 28

APRIL 27 - MAY 2

Spring has really sprung. We were all waiting for a weekend like this for a long time. One day the trees were bare and the next morning....

Bloom

Berries
Leaves

Along with the warm weather there were  Red Sox-Yankees games over the weekend. Haviland Street seems to have become a popular shortcut to Fenway Park with the pedicabs.

Played around a bit with the colors on this one, trying to give it a '70's vibe. Maybe it's more '90's and Prince

                                                                                           Lil' Red Corvette

And it's starting to be the time for the motorcycles to come out.

I'm trying to get a little more bold photographing people on the street. Still something I struggle with.

And lastly, here's some of those May flowers that all those April Showers promised.
